Search Engines are special sites on the internet which are designed to help people find information stored on other websites. Search engines work in different ways. Nevertheless, they all  search the web based on important words, they keep an index of the words they find and they also let users look for words found in that index.

In order to find information on the hundreds of millions of available web pages , search engines employ software robots called spiders to build list of words found on websites. The process of building lists by spiders are called web crawling. To build and maintain a useful list of words, search engine’s spiders have to look at so many pages. Spiders start travelling over the web  from the lists of heavily used servers and popular pages.

Most of the people who look for goods and services on the internet find websites through search engines like Google or Yahoo. SEO helps websites to have high search engine rankings to attract targeted customers  who could eventually make a purchase. When a webpage comes up high on search engine results, the website will get better traffic.

SEO is a set of methodologies that make it easier for search engines to find , index, categorise and rank web contents.SEO helps to obtain top ranking in search results in the natural way. SEO  can be divided into onsite SEO and offsite SEO

Onsite SEO is anything that is done to a web site to include keywords to be ranked for. Onsite SEO can be done by making simple adjustments in the areas on different pages of the website as given below-

Title tag: It is important to include the most important keyword you want to rank for in the title tag. It should have 6-10 words or 65 characters of space. They should be keywords people search for a product.

Meta keywords: It should include 10 – 20 words or phrases (keywords) separated by commas.

Meta description: It is 1-3 sentences describing what the page is about ie. what users can expect to find on the page. It should simply describe the page you are marketing.

Header tag: It should contain a keyword phrase to be ranked for.

Content: It is of paramount importance to have unique contents on all the pages of the website.

Offsite SEO includes link building strategies. For SEO it is important to get inbound links from websites that have authority. Submit your websites to relevant directories, do article submissions, Press releases etc.
